Moss Greenhouses 2012 Seminar ScheduleThank you for attending last year's seminars. We would like to hear from you if you have suggestions for seminars you would like to attend. Please click on this link if you have "seminar suggestions". We would like you to become better, and more confident gardeners. Please check back next spring for new seminars.
Garden TipsJanuary - Happy New Year! - Now is the perfect time to read garden books for ideas and tips.Think about changing, refreshing, or updating your garden, or flower beds. Rotate your crops, plan for sunny areas, or shady spots. How did your garden plots perform last year? Begin pruning dormant shrubs, and fruit trees. Remove dead, diseased, dangerous, or difficult branches. February - The plants you planted last fall, or your bulbs could be starting to show. Fertilize these, as well as fall planted perennials, and annuals. Start shopping for seeds, but buy early before the selection is picked over. Look for our upcoming seminar schedules. Hopefully you have sent in ideas for seminars you would like to see. March - Ready for some color? Primrose, and ranunculus will be ready to buy. Start placing pre-emergents in flower beds to help slow down the germination of weeds. Be sure to read and understand the label before using these products. Plant bare root vegetables such as asparagus, and rhubarb. Sow beets, carrots, lettuce, and radishes. Our spring greenhouse tour will be announced. April - Start bringing in your custom order pots for us to plant if you want our help with planting. The roses will be planted, and leafing out. Plant new trees, and shrubs. Plant cole crops in the vegetable garden. Sow chard, and lettuce, and plant onions, shallots, and leeks. May - Happy Mothers Day - This is our busy time and the most beautiful time. The greenhouse will be in full glory. Memorial day flowers will be ready. Plant tender vegetables after the last chance of frost is gone. June - The start of summer. Harvest herbs before they flower. Remove brush and debris from around your property to eliminate the chance of a fire hazard. July - Independence Day. Inspect your plants for pests, and apply the appropriate pesticide. August - Start of harvest. Start planning for fall landscaping. Update, and revise your perennial plantings. September - Start to cut back some perennials. Keep in mind some plants come back on old wood, so not to cut back too hard. Plant new perennials. Plant garlic, and spring flowering bulbs. Plant cool season annuals, pansies, and violas. October - Clean flower beds and get rid of old debris. Winterize your garden tools, and equipment. November - Happy Thanksgiving - We have great gift cards that never expire. The cards carry a balance if not used all at one time. They are easy to purchase by calling our office(324-1000), coming into our office, or by going to our web site, and using Pay Pal. December - Merry Christmans and Happy Holidays. Sorry we do not carry Poinsettias, but remember gift cards. Use gift cards for birthdays, secretary day, Mother's day, thank you gifts, etc...
